Google teases an eclipse-themed Android O launch event in just a few days! Google has revealed the launch date for the final version of Android O: August 21. About the event: Google will be livestreaming an unveiling event live from New York City at 2:40pm ET to coincide with the solar eclipse. Teaser: There’s a new teaser site up at Android.com/eclipse, which counts down the time until the event. “Android O is touching down to Earth with the total solar eclipse,” the site promises, “bringing some super (sweet) new powers!” It is hoped that since Google is launching Android O During Solar Eclipse, they willl probably call it ‘Oreo’. Google first revealed the existence of Android O earlier this year with the beginning of the developer preview. After four preview builds, it’s almost time for the final version to drop. Google has added a countdown timer to the Android O landing page, confirming that Android O’s release will coincide with the total solar eclipse in the US. About the new Android O: Android O (version 8.0) is the follow-up to Android 7.0/7.1 Nougat, which was released last fall. The new update has been available for testing on Pixel and Nexus devices for most of 2017 in order to help developers get their apps ready for the update, and there are a lot of changes to take into account.
